The nuances of home health care make infection prevention and control practices more challenging than within a healthcare facility. This presentation gives information to provide safe care in the home under an infection prevention lens. Together we can tackle some of the barriers and challenges home healthcare workers face, and improve the risks of infection to both the patient and the healthcare workers. 

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to:

  • Examine home health services, as well as current rates of services in home highlighting trends and implication for the future

  • Perform risk assessments to identify risks in the home health environment

  • Analyze common challenges and barriers to providing safe home health services

  • List CMS Conditions of Participation as it relates to home care and infection prevention and control

  • Apply core infection prevention practices and pragmatic suggestions to operationalize IPC processes in the home

Kirsten Trudeau leads simulation training and contributes to educational content development at the KyIP Training Center. She also serves as a sub-investigator in infectious disease research. Her passion lies in healthcare education and quality improvement, all with the aim of enhancing healthcare for everyone.
